Ted started Judo at Warrington Judo Club now known as the Warjukwai in 1955 where he first joined the BJA.
In 1960 he entered Service with the Royal Air Force and enjoyed Judo at several RAF bases in the UK, last but not least at RAF Coltishall. While there he visited the Duke Street club in Norwich. After years out of Judo he went to Old Catton Judo Club in 1983 to support his two sons Paul and Kevin and after a few weeks was persuaded to put on a judogi again, he admits it didn’t take much to make him do this.
The Catton club was affiliated to the BJC(MAC) with Harry Camsey 2nd Dan. The club had a great family fraternity and was great fun. When the Catton Club closed the family went to Drayton with Ron Suffling 2nd Dan. The Drayton Club also had a great family fraternity and was very well run.

| In 1985 Ted was appointed to the North Walsham Judo club by the BJC (MAC) Anglia Committee Chairman. The Club was and still is very successful within the BJC(MAC) with Regional National and International Gold to its credit. With best performances in Poland and France.
In 1988 he took his 1st Dan, 1992 2nd Dan and 2000 3rd Dan at which he was successful. Ted was the Chairman of the Anglia region and of both Clubs at North Walsham and Taverham. The North Walsham club is now run by others, Ted has left the club at North Walsham and the BJC (MAC).
Ted wanted more for his club so in 2003 decided the club needed change the parents supported this decision and Renkeido decided to affiliate and join the club Membership to the BJA.
Since then Ted has moved his grade over to the BJA Dan grade register and has enjoyed the growth that the BJA has given. Since 2003 the club under the BJA banner has grown from strength to strength. Ted is a BJA Level2 coach and has attained a National UKCC Level 2 coaching award |
